Cameo L. Cott is a dedicated attorney specializing in Criminal Defense and Family Law, licensed to practice in both Iowa and Florida. A Des Moines native, Cameo earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University, where she triple-majored in Political Science, Sociology, and Law, Politics and Society, with a minor in Psychology. Her diverse undergraduate studies provided her with valuable insight into human behavior and the social systems that shape our legal landscape. After graduating from Drake, Cameo moved to Orlando, Florida, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida before ultimately returning to Iowa to pursue her Juris Doctor at Drake University Law School.

Before attending law school, Cameo spent a decade working as a paralegal in family, criminal and immigration law, giving her invaluable real-word experience and a deep understanding of the legal challenges clients face. This hands-on foundation proved instrumental as she pursued her legal education.

During law school, Cameo distinguished herself through both leadership and specialized training. She served as President of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, demonstrating her commitment to advocacy beyond traditional legal practice. She worked at the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, where she developed a strong foundation in civil rights advocacy, and participated in Drake’s Criminal Defense Clinic, gaining practical courtroom experience representing clients facing criminal charges. Cameo also obtained a certificate in Constitutional Law and Civil Rights, deepening her expertise in these critical areas of practice.

Today, Cameo applies her extensive training and dual-state licensure to serve clients navigating complex family law matters and criminal defense cases. Her unique combination of legal knowledge, psychological insight, and her genuine compassion enables her to provide thoughtful, strategic representation tailored to each client’s individual circumstances.
