Domestic Abuse

What is domestic abuse?

Iowa courts take domestic abuse situations seriously. No person has a right to put their hands on another in a violent manner. Pushing, shoving, pinching, spitting, hitting, slapping, choking, and threatening harm are all considered domestic violence. Domestic violence also includes preventing someone from leaving by blocking a doorway or exit, or taking a cell phone or keys away in an attempt to keep a victim from getting help. Domestic violence in an intimate relationship can be extremely dangerous for the victim and/or the children of the victim. There is help if you are experiencing domestic violence in a relationship.
